Printed Pattern Fabric Sheets

Today I took the plunge and tried printing some patterns onto sheets of fabric. The fabric I used was a canvas type fabric that I picked up at my local haberdashery. Once the sheets are done I think I may try and make a small pouch to see how well the fabric and the print will hold up.

I started out by cutting the fabric down into 4 sheets and then ironing them so they were a wrinkle free as possible.

I used the Speedball fabric printing ink in red

The down side is that there is a bit of bleed through on the back, so I may try out a slightly thicker fabric next time round.

I did also try out printing a cloud pattern, although this fabric isn't quite finished.

Printed canvas bags

I thought I would do something different and and print some canvas bags, I chose to keep the design simple (as I only have black fabric ink) so I went with a Border Collie Cross. To test the fabric ink I printed to tester bags and put one through the washing machine and put one on the washing line during heavy rain and the conclusion the ink holds up pretty well in the rain but not after a cycle in the washing machine.

Trying out Screen printing on fabric

I've been meaning to try out printing on fabric for a while now and I thought what better time to try it out than now :). I decided to print the fuchsia flower onto the bag and for this I used Speedball's fabric ink.

As this was just a test to how well it would print I wasn't too bothered about there being a few creases in the bag. The bag I used is a cotton based tote bag that I purchased on ebay a few months ago.

The image came out really well (even considering the about of creases in the fabric) Next thing to do now is to test how well this copes going through the washing machine and whether or not the ink will stay put. I will keep you posted.
